Monkhopton Meadow Camping
Get set for a mini adventure in the meadows at Monkhopton Meadow Camping – follow a little stone track off the road and you’ll arrive in an unspoilt natural meadow that’s just the place for a bit of peaceful wild (ish) camping in the south Shropshire hills.
What makes it wild (ish)? Well, this is a real back to basics setup, with no lighting on site, but it does have a small nod to home comforts in the form of a portable composting toilet in a privacy tent. A men's, women's and accessible toilet are one mile away in the farmyard, through electric gates. Other than that, it’s just you, an abundance of wildlife to spot, and a peaceful atmosphere punctuated only by the noises of nature.
A wander around the site rewards you with views of the livestock on the surrounding hills, streams on site and lots of birds singing in the trees. It’s all rather relaxed and gorgeous – and to keep it that way you’ll be asked to respect the natural environment and other guests and to ‘leave no trace’, taking care to remove your rubbish and leave the place as you found it.
If you need any extra items, there's plenty of stuff available to hire from the site, including but not limited to food hampers, bags of ice, blow-up airbeds, hammocks, camping chairs, gazebos, an extra tent and a travel cot.
